Life is a Hoot, and one designer believes in not only expressing that through his larger then life personality but through his designs as well. Curly-V’s designs are as full of life as he is. I first met Curly last fall during Conceptfw. Under the dimly lit atmosphere of The Spring Arts Towers, located in the heart of Los Angeles. His designs are with out a doubt unique, fun and undeniably Curly. His pieces are made to order, and definitely stand out.
His theatrical and costume-like approach to design makes not only for truly one-of-a-kind pieces, but are also pieces that speak volumes with out needing any words. Although his designs for some are far too “Dimepiece” like, we here at WFTR call designers like Curly innovators. Curly, and other designers like him are the movers and shakers of the fashion industry. They are the people that, what some might consider, “Odd-balls” are actually in fact the designers who shape the trends that grace the runways in Paris, Milan, and New York. Anyone can design a black, high-waisted, princess seamed skirt. But not everyone has the vision to design a velveteen crushed, navy blue, three-quarter length sleeve top with the image of a bow appliqued on the front. We say to those that inspire, keep designing. As for the nay sayers, Get a life.
